As weird as it can appear, I still have a distinct memory of the presentation I made of the machine to this scientific journalist, my machine.
' The telepsychocontroller is my masterpiece. This machine I perfected from A to Z makes it possible to auscultate or even gather the psyche of an other conscious being, this afar and without invasive means. I am going to explain in a succinct way its working principle.
Two modified parabolic antennas are endowed with VHF emitters and a common aim servo-mechanism. One emits at 5 GHz and the other at 5 Ghz+X Hz, where X is a adjustable frequency lower to 150 Hz. When the two beams are pointed towards the same target, the wave arising from interference phenomenon have an envelope of frequency X Hz which have all the porperties of sensory synchronization brainwaves.
Now, modify as we like the synchronization waves intensity to control the targeted thinking being. But controling a living being involves knowing what the controlled subject is doing. A third parabolic antenna at very high gain is used to catch very low frequency radio waves emitted by the brain of the subject. The information collected that way are processed, shaped and sent to the controller (namely me) via the high resolution neural interface.
Of course, security flows past everything. First, the systeme detects automatically every human cerebral activity in the zone covered by the antennas and prevent any aim towards such a target ; anyway, it's impossible at the present time to control a man because the human encephal is too complex. Then, the person lying on the machine cradle is under permanent monitoring and is attended by an assisitant trained in first aid, also necessary because the machine must be started with two keys, like a nuclear weapons activation system.
I can assert from now on that my invention will make a breakthrough in neurosciences... '
First trial run took occurred the November 2nd 2014, and I did let the primacy to noboby than me. I started small : the main objective was to obtain a stable connection between controller and target, the secondary objective to share one of the target's senses.
Neural interface test : successful.
Parabolic antennas test: successful.
Psychocontrol system test : successful.
Emergency systems test : successful.
Automatic targeting : activated.
Results of targeting : 45 potential targets located.
Human psychic signature : 39 targets rejected
Select the target _
Selected target : n°4, domestic cat, distance 135 meters, psychic level 5.4 SI units.
Select power and signal shape_
Mean power : 150 watts (minimum level), shape factor : 40.
Locking on target ...
Sending of control impulsions ...
Connection established.
My sight oscillated more and more quickly between my body and the cat's, before stabelising itself in the latter's eyes. I made out clearly pavement pitch bumps, passer-by's legs, cars movement. One thing made me ill at ease : only the sight was picked up, I was seeing the cars circulate but without hearing them. it was my assistant's speech which was getting to my brain when he was running the check-list.
I also took note of a logical but destabilisating phenomenon : I was perceiving by the neural interface and my own body the heartbeats of the two bodies at the same time. As they was not synchronised, I was feeling the resulting 'tac boom' fill out then stun in a periodical way, with a frequency fitted in with the rhythm difference between the two hearts. I will be able to exploit this phenomenon to know in real time the cardiac status of the targeted animal.
By prudence, the run lasted only two minutes. All the objectives were achieved !
As the runs succeeded one another, the power and the receivers gain increased and with these parameters the perceived feelings. During one of these experiments, I was able to share his five senses with the target cat. I was lucky to come across a male searching a female in heat : this allowed me to take note of the range of physical abilities a cat can use to join his lover. It was also one of my longest trial runs, 84 minutes. After deconnection, the mess in my pants alerted me on the brittleness of the psychic fence between me and my target. The risk of neuronal 'backfire' had to be no more neglected and the addition of a 'firewall' to the telepsychocontroller to be seriously envisioned. Came back to home, comfortably sat down in my armchair, I remembered all of a sudden an old poem whose I did not recall the author, and which ended like this :
By your eyes I will see
By your ears I will hear
By your nostrils I will smell
By your tongue I will taste
By your skin I will skim
But I will not be you
Second set of runs, test number one, logical consequences of my researches. This run must have allowed me to completely control the targeted animal, a labrador for this time. The goal was to compel it to enter the cage located near to the building emergency exit, push on a bell then on a lever which will lock the cage. After slipping and activation of the monitoring shirt, I started the telepsychocontroller with the help of my assistant. Once laying down in apparatus cradle, I initialized the neuronal connection then the main program :
Mean power : 10,000 watts (maximum level), shape factor : 150.
Locking on target ...
Sending of control impulsions ...
Connection established.
With all this power concentrated on a 150cc brain, mental incursion and takeover of the dog was a piece of cake. I effected without delay some fine motor functions tests : all my gestures were glib, however with tiny yanks as the dog was tempting to keep the control of its body, but it was fulfilling on the whole. The double beat phenomenon was still present but I got used to it. The tramp who served as a master for this dog was sleeping, besotted by the booze of which the acrid odour was irritating my mussle. I succeeded in assimilating bit by bit these new feelings, sounds and smells I was not able to apprehend as a human being. As well I was just a viewer during previous runs, were as now I was soldered, merged with this animal body which seemed to be mine till its smallest cells.
Suddently, I controlled the dog's body in its entirety and only felt its heartbeat.
The connection is broken ! Instinctively I have the sinking feeling that a serious problem happened to my human body and I rush at the building. The cage is still in its stead, I fetch in and pull the bell pedal (do not pull the other pedal). I wait, wait, but nobody comes out. So I leap out and climb the stairs as fast as I can, but the steps are really tall and the machine is settled on the highest floor. And most of all, the door is locked and my attempts to open it with my forepaws remain conceited. No choice, I must get through the balconies. I manage to get into the (missing) neighbour's flat by the cat door, then open the sliding door. Here, a long jump is essential and I dither a little before embarking.
When I manage to enter the flat, the apparatus is still here. But the cradle is empty. Besides it is strange that I keep control of the dog's body even though neuronal and radio connections are stopped. I ogle in all the nooks, searching a clue or an guideline for the course of events. A administrative form lags on the edge of the table, I topple it with a paw knock. It tells the letterhead of La Salpetriere hospital. Good, I can go along yon by the subway line 5, then... no, numbskull, you are a dog now ! I must go on foot... on paws.
The night is beginning. Street lamps are lighting one by one and throw their yellowish light on the slippery pavement. In addition, a witty drizzling rain moistens my fur without being able to remove the grime and parasites which infestate it. I must not run nor walk in the main streets, I could attract attention from passers-by and be chased as stray dog. But toddle in the adjacent lanes makes it awfully longer, and I have now a sharp sense of smell which no putrid odour escapes. After a few hundred meters, I am already soaked, muddy and nauseous. I arrived in scope to the front of the hospital when the pediment clock sounds ten and a half.
I profit from the uproarious arrival of a ambulance to come in the emergency service. There are here, jammed into too rare seats and strechers which lumber the hallways, all kinds of ill people. From minor wounds which overload the doctors to deepest cases dashed to reanimations rooms. It is in these rooms that I will know the complexion of the problem which affect me ... my body. I sneak as discretely as possible under the benchs and strechers stand against the hallway wall.
In the ambient babel, I recognize whimpers. Whimpers I rarely heard, but I cannot forget. Whimpers of which I dread the reason. My mother's whimpers. Moving near, I see her burst into tears in a seat, a doctor by her side uncoiling the usual consolation banalities : we did our best, ...
I want to spurt ahead from my hideaway and yell to her that I am here, but my mind brings me cruelly to my senses. I am now a dog with human consciousness. My body is dead, but I am still alive...
I tracked down the machine, stored in a hangar adjoining the tracks of Montparnasse railway station. As soon as an opportunity emerges, I slip away and go there. I must modify the telepsychocontroller to invert the process. Noway conspicuous without prehensile limbs or bipedal stature.
During his last visit, the veterinarian from the SPCA haven where I was took in said that I had three years of life ahead me. Every second counts.
